Song: “The One”
Album: Millennium
Aristotle once said, “Love is composed of a single soul inhabiting two bodies.” Whenever I hear, this track off the BSB Millennium record, that thought of two becoming one instantaneously enters my mind. Not only is it about love and how someone wants to heal this vulnerability, but the song means so much more than that.
I have stated over and over again that music has the power to heal. We all have that one track that we put on whenever we experience difficulty. Hearing that song just puts us in a better mood, right? I know no matter what… Hearing this heals my heart for so many reasons. The first being the memories attached to it.
I have to confess, I was more of an N*SYNC fan back then, and so growing up I was only familiar with the Backstreet Boys songs that came on the radio. My best friend on the other hand was a major fan from the beginning. She lent me the Millennium CD one night, and I just remember my older sister falling in love with the track “The One.” It was her favorite, and why not? Just look at the lyrics:
You need me like I need you
We can share our dreams comin’ true
I can show you what true love means
Just take my hand, baby please
We all need a helping hand at some point. My family is there for each other 100%. What I love the most is whenever we can share a meal together, because with a household full of adults that can be rare. Just sharing some laughs, catching up with what is going on really means a lot to me. Family is in my heart first and foremost.
Finally, the other family I am so fortunate to be a part of — the family of BSB Sisters & Blockheads. For the past couple of months, they have been so supportive, so generous, and beyond kind. Whenever I need a smile, I can always count on them. We celebrate together, we endure things together…. We truly bleed a heart of black and blue, and we will do anything for our sisters of the block.
My message to you tonight would be to surround yourself with love. When you do, many will be there to “bring you from darkness to light.”
