Joseph, Joey, Joe,
June 1, 2005. The day you kicked off the entire US series of “Dancing With The Stars.” I have to be honest, I had no idea who the New Kids On The Block were at the time. The minute you hit the floor with Ashly, something happened. I was grinning from ear to ear. At the age of 15, I fell in love with dance.
Dance has given me one very important gift: CONFIDENCE. I spent so many years in school being bullied. It was hard to find my self worth, if I was surrounded by negativity.
When I formally took up ballroom dancing in college, things changed. My passion made learning easier. Others began to notice my new found confidence as well. I even won my class’s swing dance competition!
“Dancing With The Stars” is such a HUGE part of my life right now. I’ve done several interviews with the pro dancers. Pro dancer Tristan MacManus has become such a beacon of light in my life (WHAT IS IT WITH ME BEING A SUCKER FOR THE IRISH? 😉 haha). He’s always had my back when it comes to our interviews.
My friend made a joke that I have an alter ego in dance: Moxie Dynamo. 😉 People have told me I’m a stick of dynamite on the dance floor. I’ve also heard that I have a lot Moxie for taking chances and embracing who I am.
It’s not always easy to embrace my faults and move on. “But it ain’t about how hard you hit, it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.”
Dance will always be special to me. It’s like nothing else. Expressing oneself through movement is a beautiful catharsis. Whether it’s acting, singing, dance that you find bliss in your passions. Thank you for giving one of my biggest passions in life. When we meet, make sure you “come and dance with me. ” 😉
