Tomorrow marks my first day as a Video Technician for Norman Public Schools. It’s been a long road to get here. 5 years of college, 3 months of unemployment. Several applications and interviews… all leading up to this moment. There were plenty of times I wanted to give up. Days like today taught me how important it is NOT to give up on your dreams.
Today, I attended a book signing with my best friend. That book signing was for my former high school teacher. Sonia Gensler became a published author of not one, but two books. (Shameless plug! You can check out more about her books and other info at soniagensler.com).
I remember when she was telling my friends and me in high school that she was working on a novel. I’m so proud of her for not giving up on her lifelong dream. It just made me even more motivated.
So this post is dedicated to a lot of people: first,
My family. They had their own rough patches in life, but never gave up on themselves or each other. They also saw my potential when I was ten steps from giving up. Thank you, Phamily!
To my friends who had to endure all the moments of my “unemployment funk.” I complained on how much I wanted my BIG adventures. Thank you for reinstating the facts that in time they’ll come. This is just a start. Thank you.
To Joey McIntyre. You close this Denver Chapter today, but it’s not over. Thank YOU so much for showing me that my passions make me who I am. Thank you for getting me through “corn chips and sadness.” Thank YOU for lifting my spirits, and for being such a positive role model in my life.
Tristan MacManus. I haven’t forgotten about you, buddy! If you didn’t take a chance on me, none of my “Dancing With The Stars” interviews would have happened. Employers looked at my resume, and that’s something they always asked me, “How did you get to interview dancers from DWTS?” I simply smiled and told them, “A kind pro dancer took a chance on me, and more opportunities arose from it.” Thank you for always having my back. You’re one of the most compassionate people I know. I’ll be rooting for you and Valerie tomorrow!
David Henrie: DAVID! It’s amazing that I’m almost done binge watching “Wizards of Waverly Place” for the third time. I loved when you wrote episodes. I also love how much comedy and heart you brought to Justin Russo. I needed those laughs when I was down. So glad that someone sweet like you gave them to me. You’re a comedic treasure. Thank you for the laughs, and thank you for continuing to chase your dreams. So humble and kind, and oh so talented.
To everyone… Thank you all so much for joining me on every step of this journey. College was a blast, and I can’t wait to feel what it’s like to move onto the next chapter of my life. Remember: “You have nothing to prove to the world, only to share with it.”
